Loyalty is one of the most virtuous traits one can possess and is most strongly symbolized in the animal kingdom by the dog, elephant, wolf, eagle, and goose.
Through either their relationships with humans or evolutionary behavior amongst their own kind, these five creatures are the perfect symbols of loyalty and faithfulness.
Remember that symbolism is subjective. The below are examples of possible interpretations only, and may not be the correct interpretations for you and your situation.
Animals that Symbolize Loyalty
1. Bees
Bees are symbols of loyalty because they work their whole lives for the good of their colony with no regard for themselves.
A bee is born with a role – usually a worker bee – and they spend their lives living out that role in order to ensure their colony survives. They stay true to the colony for their whole lives, working hard and never taking a day off.
When a colony is under threat, a bee will sting the animal that is threatening the colony. The bee dies after they sting their threat, making the ultimate sacrifice for the good of others.

2. Dogs
Of all creatures in the animal kingdom, it is the dog that is most synonymous with loyalty. They are one of the most loyal creatures known to man and have always signified such positive traits as loyalty, faith, honesty, and companionship.
Partially due to selective breeding over thousands of years, dogs have become closely associated with extreme loyalty, particularly in the context of the human-dog relationship.
In virtually every culture where domestic dogs are present – from Eastern to African to ancient Egyptian and every other culture in between – they are known for sticking steadfastly to their owner/family/pack.
When it comes to animals, dogs signify the perfect companion.
When it comes to the realm of spirituality and the appearance of spirit animals, a dog is usually a positive omen.
However, dogs as spiritual symbols can sometimes represent confused loyalty – maybe you are unsure of where to place your commitments.
The dog may represent the need for you to stay true to yourself first, and to remain loyal to your own principles.
In dreams, the appearance of a singular dog usually indicates the strength of loyalty that is held by the dreamer. It is resoundingly a positive symbol. But be wary of black dogs that appear in dreams – they are more likely to represent darker forces.
As well as loyalty, dogs symbolize joy and happiness.
3. Dolphins
Dolphins symbolize loyalty because they have been observed to be loyal to both other dolphins and even humans.
Dolphins are very social animals and travel in groups. They work together when hunting and playing.
And when a dolphin is sick or injured, other dolphins will come together and help hold up their sick friend so their blowhole is held above the water.
Dolphins have even been observed to save humans from drowning. Dolphins have lifted and carried humans to the safety of shore when they’ve been stranded at sea.
4. Eagles
These elegant beasts of the sky are symbols of loyalty particularly when it comes to love and one-on-one relationships. They have a lot to show us about the importance of commitment and striving to maintain strong bonds with a partner.
In the animal kingdom, eagles are known to be one of the few bird species that are largely monogamous – they choose one mate to commit to and will pair with that mate year after year, often until the end of their life is possible.
They also raise their young together and do their utmost to defend their small family units.
In matters of love, the eagle pair encapsulates committed, life-long, and truly loyal relationships with a strong sense of loyalty to family.
One should strive to achieve the kind of loyalty that these birds show when it comes to choosing a partner.
The symbol of the eagle can be taken as a sign that one should carefully consider who they choose to develop a relationship with and commit fully to that relationship once they have found the right person.

5. Elephants
One of the most social animals around, elephants know what it means to remain loyal to their herd. For this reason, they are known as symbols of loyalty and stability.
It has been shown that elephants form unbreakable and lifelong bonds with the other members of their herd, to the point that they will wait for any member who falls behind and can recognize an acquaintance after years of separation.
They are deeply caring and bonded creatures, with no end to their loyalty, making them a very appropriate symbol of this trait.
On a spiritual level, the elephant represents the importance of loyalty to the family unit – though “family” can be a flexible term.
Essentially this animal is a reminder of where your commitments should lie, and how lucky you are to have a shared sense of loyalty among your “herd.”
6. Geese
The goose is a bird that rightly connotes images of faith and loyalty to the unit, often traveling in a flock. Like the eagle, geese are also a “one partner for life” kind of bird.
You only need to observe geese yourself to see how loyalty might be an important trait that these birds represent – they move as one group, often as a family, and do so to ensure that no weaker members of the flock, particularly the gosling, will ever be left behind.
Geese are loyal to an extreme, as self-sacrificing animals who will put the needs of the flock before their own.
As a totem or spirit animal, geese tend to represent those of us who are most loyal and community-minded and always put their friends and family first.
The appearance of the goose can also be a prompt for you to consider the people you surround yourself with, and who you allow into your inner circle. It is one thing to be fiercely loyal, but the goose reminds us to ensure that we also need a “flock” that has an equal sense of loyalty to us.
Geese also mate for life, and take companionship seriously, which is a good reminder for us to commit the same time and care to our relationships as geese do to theirs.
7. Horses
Horses have been loyal sidekicks to humans throughout history.
They have been domesticated for many thousands of years. In this time, horses have carried us, toiled for us, and befriended us.
Knights in the middle-ages would travel the world with their horse. Being alone with no friendship except for that of their horse by their side, horses became the knight’s one true sidekick.
Today, people still ride horses for fun and for the pleasure of developing a close trusting relationship between themselves and their horse. Humans care for horses and show them love, and in return the horse remains a loyal friend to the humans.
8. Lions
Lions are perceived to be loyal creatures because they live in very close and loving groups called prides.
In the pride, the lion gets protection from other lions. But, they also provide protection for their friends. By staying together as a strong pack, they are able to be safer and stronger than they ever could be alone.
People with the lion as their spirit animal have a range of positive traits. They’re said to be proud, strong, and great leaders. But they’re also said to be fiercely loyal to their own.

9. Penguins
Penguins are said to be loyal because they mate for life.
Penguins are some of the few creatures who find one mate and stay together for their whole lives. They also mourn when their loved one passes away.
This loyalty to their one true love makes them great penguin parents but also great partners by one another’s side.
People with the penguin spirit animal are said to be fun, playful, good-humored, and of course, excellent and loyal partners.
10. Swans
Like Penguins, swans are said to symbolize loyalty because they also mate for life.
When two swans find one another, they become inseparable. They believe each other to be their true mate for their whole lives.
You will see swans who are lovers swimming together in ponds and lakes, raising their family together, and pecking around in the grass together.
As spirit animals, swans symbolize love and romance, and part of that is the idea that they are truly loyal to those they love.

11. Wolves
Wolves are known for the strength of their pack, and the strong, familial bonds they form with fellow members.
In the eyes of a wolf, the pack always comes first no matter what, and the needs of the group are put above the needs of the individual, hence why wolves fall into such a natural hierarchy within the pack formation.
The wolf as a symbol should serve as a reminder that protecting and providing for your loved ones is a top priority.
Those with the wolf as a spirit animal are fiercely loyal people, devoted to a small but tight-knit group of friends and/or family who are equally committed to them.
Conclusion
These animals are the most loyal of the bunch and are an excellent reminder to us of the importance of loyalty, faith, and commitment to the people in our lives and to ourselves.
Their behavior should serve as a guideline for what our priorities could, and should be. Whether we choose to be a loyal member of the herd, or a committed partner to a single person, they show us that love, faith, and loyalty are essential parts of life.
